Jorn in Black
Most of my week was as usual, except 2 things. The first is that I went to the European Motor Show Brussels 2008. Wow that is quite a mouthful
Basically it’s a convention where car constructors show off their current and upcoming vehicles. I went there along with Tom2. It had been ages since we had done something together so it was cool seeing each other again
The other thing I did this week was go shopping with Els. I needed a suit to wear on her wedding and my old suit was just well, old. We went to my usual store expecting to spend hours wading through stuff. Luckily a woman who worked there saw we were in need of some help
She immediately handed us the right sizes for everything. Why clothes companies insist on using different kind of sizes for everything is beyond me really. Anyways, we were out of there in about an hour. I have to say, I look darn good ! And to prove it I’ll attach a picture to this post. After that we shopped around a bit and went for a drink. It was nice
Today Katrien and I went to do a little bit of work in our new house. There were some final grooves that needed to be made for the electricity that we took care of.
As promised, here’s a picture of me in my new suit. Slick no ?
I’ve also attached a picture of Tom2 at the Motor Show
Roof finished !
Good news ! Our roof is now finished ! I have to say, it’s starting to look like a real house, it’s so cool
Pictures can be found here.
Holding the fort
It was a quiet week, and I mean that quite literally. On Tuesday evening almost all of my coworkers left to Italy to go skiing. I didn’t feel like going along this year, and when we had to book I wasn’t sure what the status would be with Castle Jorn. They were gone for the rest of the week, leaving me alone on the floor I work at for 3 days. One floor down there were 3 other people though, so I wasn’t completely abandonned
On Saturday I worked in the house again along with Kristof’s dad. Katrien had to work so she got out of it
We put in the tubes for the electricity in the bedrooms. Basically this means I had to chip out some walls again, attach tubes to floor and build them into the walls. Again good progress was made, but doesn’t look like we’ll be done soon. I did learn how to make cement, yipee
Today I’m having a lazy Sunday, playing World of Warcraft and watching some series on TV. My warlock is level 53 now and I think I’ll go level him a bit more now
so see ya !
Drilling holes leads to sore muscles ?
I survived the first week at work, yay ! ^_^ Even had time in the evening to sneak in a haircut, I’ll try to post a picture in the near future. Tom1 took some today actually when I was over at this place playing the Wii together with Tom2, so if I can convince him to give them to me I’ll post them asap. So more on that soon
The biggest (and only actually) news of the week is that we worked in the house on Saturday. We spent most of the day drilling holes in the ceiling to put in the spotlights. For this we rented a specific diamond drill that could cut through armed concrete. However even then to accomplish this we had to provide a lot of water to keep the drill cool. This meant that Katrien had to spend most of the day running back and forth from the drill to the water well. The result is that she now has sore butt muscles. I find this extremely funny, but I think she disagrees ![]()
We did some other small chores like get tubes to put in the walls but the drilling was the main event of the day. We also noticed that the construction company put the roof in above the terrace, pictures can be found here.
Other than that not a lot of interesting stuff happened this week. Katrien had to work 2 nights so I spent the evenings watching Smallville. hopefully next week I’ll have more to tell
Welcome to 2008 !
First and foremost, happy new year to everyone !
We had a great celebration. Katrien and I were invited at Els and Kristof’s place to have a nice dinner with a bunch of friends. We had several courses, they obviously made a lot of effort for it and it was all good
Afterwards we opened presents. Everyone had to buy something for a person who’s name they had picked. I bought something for Dimitry. Because he was always laughing with my grandmother’s card mat I bought him one, that’ll teach him to laugh with Audooren heirlooms !
Dimitry also managed to spill champagne all over himself, just check out the pictures here.
On the first of January we went to visit my grandmother, just like we do every year. Only my dad and Veerle were present though. My sister was going to be there in the evening and my brother had already left.
Although we planned to make the holes for the spotlights on Thursday it didn’t happen because we couldn’t get a drill, so this’ll be for next Saturday. Instead Katrien and I went to clean up a bit after our smashing of the walls last week. Dusty is the best word to describe it
On Friday I went to Valery’s for 2 days. Katrien had to work anyways so it was perfect timing
We wanted to go see Bee Movie but they were only showing it at ridiculous times (in the morning), so we decided to go to Enchanted instead. It looked like a fun movie, but our hopes of it being very good were pretty low. We were pleasantly surprised, the movie managed to keep us laughing for its whole duration ![]()
Other than that we also played a lot with the Wii. Chris was there also so we had some three player fun with Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games. Val and I also played quite a bit of Super Mario Galaxy together, awesome platform game ! I doubt I’ll find myself playing it a lot solo, but I’ll be sure to take it along next time I go there ![]()
There was also some board game fun to be had. We played Rummicub (I doubt anyone outside of the Benelux has even heard about it, feel free to correct me if I’m wrong) and Yatsee. I had never played the latter, so I managed to benefit from beginner’s luck and win ! Belgium / The Netherlands: 1 – 0 !
*crowd goes wild in the background*
Unfortunately vacation is almost over, tomorrow it’s back to work. So I’m off now to enjoy my last few hours of laziness
until next time !
