PostHeaderIcon New job !

I’ve got some exciting news to share. I am changing jobs ! After thinking about it for a long time, I’ve decided to join the ranks of Queaso as an IT consultant. I look forward to some exciting and educational times with a great bunch of people. Tom4 and Paul also work there, so there are some familiar faces, which is great. Wish me luck !

PostHeaderIcon Movies and gadgets

It seems that all I write about on this blog anymore are my weekends. Are my weeks so uneventful ? :) This week wasn’t any different.

Fun started on Friday when Arwen, Bouw, Kirsten, Jan and I went to see Cloverfield. I must say, I was pleasantly surprised. The movie delivers. Bouw put it in a nice way, with for example Godzilla, you don’t know how a normal person in the street would react. This movie shows it in a nice way. I wasn’t entirely happy with the ending, but they couldn’t do it any other way unless they broke the whole viewing angle they had for the rest of the movie.

On Saturday and Sunday I was in Holland visiting Valery. First on the agenda was the gadget store ! I told you I’d be going back there ;) I doubted very long about buying the Shocking Tanks (2 remote controlled tanks who give the driver an electric shock if their tank is hit by the other tank). In the end Valery could talk me out of it (probably the smart thing to do ;) ). One of the people from the shop tried to persuade me by playing another electric shock game with me, but in the end I managed to hold my ground.

That of course doesn’t mean I left empty handed ! I got a Panic Button (similar to the Bullshit Button from last time), a vibrating pillow to share with Katrien and last not but least a Desktop Defender (a missile launcher to shoot projectiles to your colleagues). The last one was an early birthday present from Valery, yay ! I intend to put it to good use ;)

After the gadget store we walked around a bit in Leiden (one of the few places my sense of direction seems to fail). We passed by a bookstore where I picked up 3 English books that seemed cool. Don’t know anything about them but the summary looked good, so we’ll give them a shot. My shortage of books to read is slowly vanishing. Valery wanted to pass by a shop filled with unicorn statues. When we got there I was reminded that the shop also sells a lot of swords ! In the end I ended up buying the fighting knives of Legolas to hang on my wall. I’ve wanted these for so long and they were only 60 Euro. A bargain ! Valery walked out with nothing, I’m glad she took me there though ;)

In the evening Valery, Chris and I went to see the movie Jumper. A nice action movie, not the best but still very entertaining. The other option was Rambo, but I think we were all more in the mood for Jumper. When we got home afterwards, we spent the rest of the evening watching episodes of That 70′s Show, funny stuff.

Sunday was mostly a lazy couch day. We played a few games of Yatsee and watched some shows on TV. I left home a bit earlier than usually though because I had a meeting with my fellow World of Warcraft guildies. As you can tell, a fun weekend ! The next one won’t be so pleasant I’m afraid, as there is a lot of work to do in the house :(

Oh, talking about the house ! Some good news. It will be finished at the end of June or early July. That is really awesome since that was our best case scenario. It also sounds so close, we are almost March. Yay !

Here is a picture of the knives, aren’t they awesome ? :)

PostHeaderIcon Castle Jorn is now wind and water proof !

It was a busy weekend. We got up early (8am) to go work in the house. We had to pull the wires through the tubes. It was ice cold ! I stupidly put on my rubber boots, which were freezing. By the end of the day I expected to remove them to find my toes missing :) Anyways, we got a lot of work done. Katrien’s dad came over to help us out and he knows about this stuff. So he got along great with Kristof’s dad as they understood each other in their techno-talk :)

On Sunday we went to eat at my dad’s. My grandparents from my mom’s side were there. I managed to get a hold of a lot of my old pictures, maybe one day I’ll scan a few :) After lunch we took them to see Castle Jorn. Talking about the house, yesterday they put in the windows and the doors ! It’s really starting to look great, pictures can be found here. On Thursday we have a meeting with the construction company, so we’ll have more info then on what’s coming.

Next weekend I’m going to Valery’s. I’m happy I can take a weekend off from working in the house. That, and it’s fun in general to go there of course ;) We are planning another visit to the gadget store so I’ll probably come home with something cool. Expect more info in the next post or something :)

A bit of bad news also, Katrien her car broke down today. She could start it and move forward but had no lights or steering capability. Really strange. Someone from the mobile mechanic company (I have no idea what the official English term is) took a look at it and couldn’t find anything wrong with it, neither could the garage itself. We’ll just have to keep them crossed it doesn’t happen again :) Wouldn’t be a fun thing to happen on the freeway …

PostHeaderIcon The windows are coming soon

More house news, as there is none about anything else ;) We got some good news. The windows will arrive next week already ! Then the house will be completely closed off so the work inside can commence. This week the plumber is coming, so that’s also excellent news. All in all we are cruising ahead. Last weekend we did some more work on the electricity, pictures can be seen here.
When we were working Tom1 and Wenti passed by, they were in the neighborhood and came to see the house in the flesh so to speak :)

Besides the house news, there’s not much to tell. I had a lazy Sunday, Katrien had to work. I Spent the day playing World of Warcraft and doing some minor chores. On a side note, Katrien thought it necessary to clean up my giant pyramid of empty cola cans. I’ll have to start all over again to make a picture of it, but the good news is, I’ve already collected some :)

PostHeaderIcon Arwen is getting old

Last Saturday we ended up not working in the house. Kristof’s dad couldn’t make it because he had to pick out his suit for the wedding. This meant we could sleep in so that was nice :) We did go to the house to make some pictures, watch them here. As you can see,  Kristof’s dad has been busy !

On Sunday I visited Arwen. It had actually been a while since I last went over there. Main reason (besides just hanging out) for the visit was that it was Arwen’s birthday ! So we couldn’t let that go by without some small celebration :) The guys and I bought him an 8GB USB stick (these things are getting cheap !), and I have to say: awesome present, wouldn’t mind having one of those myself ;)
Arwen also had pie, I mean how awesome is that ! We also played a short game of poker, and for once in a long time I finally won again. I was starting to think I lost my magic, but I’m back ^_^

Oh yeah, Arwen also has this crazy idea (well most of his ideas are crazy ;) ) to go on a road trip to Scandinavia and visit the most northern point of Europe. Bouw and Peter are tagging along. He asked me if I wanted to go along, but to be honest I don’t think it’s my cup of tea, but who knows, he might convince me yet :) It’s only for next year so still plenty of time.
