House progress
As promised I uploaded some new pictures on the house. I divided them into 2 new folders. First came the isolation of the floors with some sort of foam, which can be seen here. This week they put in most of the floor tiles, it’s starting to look really nice ! Those pictures can be seen here.
Well I’m off to the wedding of a colleague, until next time ! I think there’ll be some fun pictures and maybe even movies of my new gadget then ! Stay tuned
Moving forward on all fronts
We’re in week 2 of the new job and I’ve started programming. It’s an interesting project, I can do it in Visual Studio 2008 so that’s neat. Also, it’s in Windows Forms. I’ve mostly done web applications so far so it’s nice to work on ‘the other side’ and see how things are over there.
With the house we are nicely on schedule. I know it’s been a while since I last posted pictures but I’ll try to do so soon. Currently they are putting down the tiles, so it’s a whole other sight. It’s starting to look like a finished house
I had a not so fun moment this week. As most of you know, I play World of Warcraft. I also host the site and forum of the guild. Now I had a minor problem with my hosting, nothing major so I was talking to One.com (hosting company) support. The helpdesk person ‘accidentally’ deleted the whole guild site. Then he asked me ‘is there anything else I can help you with ?’ … I was starting to freak out and told him to put the backup back perhaps ? He then informed me that the backups can only be restored in case of a server crash. Luckily I had backups of myself, but needless to say I was very annoyed (read boiling inside). I think it might be time to look elsewhere for hosting, we’ll see.
Oh yeah, remember my story about Tom9 stripping on Kristof’s bachelor day ? Well the good news is that there is footage ! Geert recorded it with his cellphone. The quality isn’t great though and the sound is awful but still it’s quite an interesting watch. And for the people amongst you that are easily shocked, it’s not explicit, Geert stopped recording before we got to that part
A fresh start
So much to tell, so little time tonight to tell it in. But I’ll do my best
Friday was my last day at Korfina. It was a bit odd I must admit, a double feeling in a sense if you get what I mean. I managed to convince a couple of colleagues to go to lunch with me in a restaurant nearby, so that was nice
After work I stayed a bit longer to have a final drink with everyone and to say goodbye. Unlike my colleagues that left before me I didn’t get a sentimental present to remember them by though, so that was a shame, but not a biggie
The weekend was rather full. On Saturday morning (very early I have to add) Kristof took me to the garage to get the USS Darthy F. Although it’s currently an older model (have to wait 6 months for my car to be manufactured) it’s still a nice starship, euh car
In the evening I went to Arwen’s to watch Meet the Spartans but it sucked. We ended up watching a movie from a book of Terry Pratchett instead, which was actually quite good. I’ll watch the second part together with Katrien sometime soon.
On Sunday the guys and I had another LAN party. It had been a while (not counting the Queaso LAN), and since I have a new laptop now I can take that one and don’t have to move my pc every time. A shame I can’t name my laptop though, it has to has this silly company network name, my choice was so much better !
On Monday it was time for the first day of work at Domo, my first assignment as a Queaso Consultant. It’s a big place, I’m in some small office on a huge plant. Easy to get lost
The project I have to do looks interesting, but I’ve not managed to start programming yet. It’s been mainly analysis, but also a lot of reading existing documents. I should be able to start programming tomorrow though, looking forward to it
Bachelor day
Good morning ! Or should I say, good afternoon. I woke up late today after Kristof’s bachelor day yesterday. I got home at around 4am, I guess It’ll be an early night for me today
We started the day by going to Limburg, which is a province in the east of Belgium for all your foreigners out there
There was a place there that offered several indoor attractions at one location.
We started by doing lasershooting. It was a bit dark inside so we had to be careful in the beginning for our eyes to adjust. Dimi wasn’t of course, so I saw him sliding over the ground once and apparently he also ran straight into a wall. For the rest of us that made it extra fun though
In the end Paul won the match, but the highest accuracy score was for Kristof’s dad … I guess that army training he used to have paid off
Next up was karting. It was a nice fast track, Sven seized the day and won the match. Good thing those races don’t take longer than 15 minutes though, my back was killing me when I got out of the kart.
Then we had to shoot targets. It’s harder than it looks, hit a bull’s eye from 10 meters away. Still I got a respectable 7 shots (of the 20) on the target, not too bad
One of the guns wasn’t aligned properly so some people got to go 2 times.
After the shooting we had something original coming up. It was playing soccer with dodgems (I think that’s the correct translation, they are the little cars you use to ram each other with). This was soooooo much fun ! There were 6 goals, 3 for each team. Ramming another car to get the ball behind it in the goal wasn’t an exception. Great laughs, this is the one thing I had hoped to try a second time, but we were running out of time
The last event was riding the rodeo bull. Now that caused some great laughs. I didn’t stay on very long (it was with an iron bar, and not enough strength in my bad wrist to keep certain parts away from it) but still, I had a good laugh. I think Tom stayed on the longest, with a spectacular fall at the end. At the bottom of this post you can see a movie of each of us.
After an active and fun day we went to dinner at a restaurant called ‘De Goljer’. It’s basically an all you can eat place. I went there one time before for my birthday a long time ago. First time I actually got Valery to Belgium, I remember a funny story there with a language mix up
*ducks*
Anyways, the food was excellent. There were long queues though at the places where they prepare it for you (you choose your plate and they cook it while you watch) but it was worth it
We gave Kristof a ‘marriagable certificate’. Something funny we put together so he’d have a souvenir of the evening.
After dinner we did something I haven’t done in a very long time, namely went to a disco. There weren’t a lot of people but still we managed to enjoy ourselves, mainly by being very goofy. Dimi went crazy dancing and Tom ended up stripping on a platform. Why oh why did I leave my camera in the car ?? We rounded up at about 3am I think. It was a very fun day
