PostHeaderIcon The flag is up, this is the final lap !

We’ve come to it at last, the final post from our rental house. In 4 days we’ll be trading in Dungeon Jorn for Castle Jorn. Although we’re making good progress there still remains a lot to do. Katrien’s stress level is peeking. Today we painted the utility room, put in the spotlights, taped the master bedroom and the bathroom so they can be painted tomorrow, installed the letter box and did some other minor chores. The most important things left to do are getting all the cables ready for the TV/phone/internet installation and paint those 2 rooms I mentioned. And then there’s the packing of course. Katrien has to work so it’s up to me. I’m not exactly Mister Fixit but I’ll do my best :)

Last weekend I did have a bit of relaxation though, can’t be all work right ? :) I started off my vacation by going to Valery’s. As usual we had some fun times with the Wii and going to the movies. 2 of them this time actually, we went to see Hancock & The Incredible Hulk. Both were actually pretty good, not super but still very entertaining, exactly what I was expecting.

Yesterday evening (and night, we played till 3 am) I went over to Jan’s place where the rest of the guys were hanging out (except Arwen, he’s gone to evil scouts camp). We played a game of Descent. For those of you who don’t know it, it’s a Dungeons & Dragons board game and pretty fun, but lengthy. As usual I was the not so evil Dungeon Master. We tried some new rules we made up in an attempt to make things more balanced but we went overboard, this time the heroes were winning easily. So we’ll have to find some middle ground next time :)

Well that’s it for now … wish us luck with the big move !

PostHeaderIcon Almost vacation … to move

Yes I know, I’ve been slacking with the blog. It’s been busy, busy, busy (and not solely with the house even).

First about the house, it’s almost done ! We move next week (which you know if you’ve been vigorously reading this blog as you should be ! ;) ) so we have a lot to do before then. We finally started painting. It took longer than expected to get everything paint ready and taping all the things that can’t be colored in white (which I still managed to do by the way, I truly am a magician … just the wrong kind ;) ). Of course we painted the most important room first, namely the office :) Amazingly Katrien agreed, probably because it’s out of immediate view and could therefore be used to practice. Perfect ! :) The kitchen is also completely in place, I uploaded some pictures here. They aren’t the best quality since I had forgotten my camera that day but I did bring my precious (aka iPhone).

Something I forgot to mention in my last post, I went to see the new Narnia movie, it was a week or 2 ago though. My opinion about it is exactly the same as the first one. A fairly good movie with 1 major flaw: it tries to be epic like Lord of the Rings but fails, since it’s a fairy-tale. They should have done it like Stardust and not try to go overboard and it would have all been perfect.

The guys and I finally played Sins of a Solar Empire in a LAN game. It was fun ! We’ve done it 2 times now, first Kirsten, Bouw, Jan and I and the week after it was Arwen instead of Jan. The first week everything worked fine game wise, no crashes. And as you can guess the second time with Arwen present his computer managed to crash the game. I checked out his system and deactivated like 20 startup programs and then it ran fine. A little frustration aside it was great fun though. I hope to play it again soon but then on a Saturday or something so we can continue late into the night, since that was a problem this time :)

The coming weekend I’m going to Valery’s. And then as I mentioned I have vacation, I’m really looking forward to both, I need a small break :) Not that there’ll be that much relaxation during the week itself with the move, but the weekend will be fun :)

To conclude, here’s a funny picture of Milan, world’s smallest motorcycle rider. You can see him thinking “Yes, I will be a babe magnet !” ;)

PostHeaderIcon We’re back !

Welcome to the new and improved Darthy.net ! You might not notice a big difference but behind the screens it’s all new. We’re now running on WordPress 2.5.1 and all plugins have been upgraded to the latest version. And of course we are running on a new host, namely Lunarpages.
My experiences over the past few days have made me glad I left One.com. Not only did they change all the info on my domain to theirs, they also locked my domain for 2 months so I can’t completely transfer. After a week of insisting and getting very contradictory responses from them they finally changed the nameservers of Darthy.net to those of Lunarpages. Phew !
Another noteworthy change is the fancy permalinks which now also work with the gallery plugin.

I also have other big news … Castle Jorn is officially ours ! Durabrik, the construction company, has officially turned it over to us. They only have a few minor things left to do there. It’s moving day in 3 weeks so time is running short, so much left to do for us personally ! We can always use an extra pair of hands when the big moving day arrives, so feel free to come help (I can but try ;) )

Talking about the house, we worked some more in it today. We scrubbed down the walls to make them smooth. So much dust … but at least they can now be painted, which will be the next big step.

Yesterday Els & Kristof came over for dinner. Katrien and I were preparing the food (well I’ll admit, mostly Katrien, but still, I helped !) and we noticed like 15 minutes before our guests arrived that we probably wouldn’t have enough food. Panic mode on ! I called them and asked them to come a bit later. As I continued stuffing the cannelloni, Katrien drove to the store to get more. In the end though, everyone ate so many appetizers that no one was hungry anymore. Oh well ;) I had a bit too much to drink (there was champagne to celebrate the house stuff) and Els took advantage of my temporary weakness and beat the crap out of me in a pillow fight … I shall have my vengeance !

Well I’m going to go relax a bit, my whole body is sore from the wall scrubbing.

The transfer is now underway. However I’m having some configuration issues resulting in a slow site, it should be fixed soon (but it could take a few days). Stay tuned !

PostHeaderIcon Goodbye Don, you will be missed

Sad news today. Don S. Davis passed away last week. For those of you who don’t know him, he played General Hammond in Stargate SG1. It was a big shock for me, as he is a leading actor on my favorite show. He will be missed. For more info see Gateworld.

On a side note, the site transfer is going a bit slower than expected. One.com is being slow at releasing my domain.
