PostHeaderIcon Is my pokergame better when I’m tipsy ?

For the first time in a long time I managed to get lucky at the monthly poker game. I went home with a full 1 Euro of profit ! Woohoo ! This time the poker evening was held at Geert’s. Tom4 was there also, it had been a while since he was present. Although he probably got a bit annoyed because we spent more time talking than actually playing poker ;) I didn’t mind though, I had a few Leffe’s (Belgian beer) so my head wasn’ t completely in the game, apparently I play better that way ;)

Yesterday I went to visit my cousin Kelly who had given birth a while ago along with my dad. It had been since her last baby that I had seen her. It was also convenient because I had to be in Ertvelde anyways since there was a LAN party planned at Bouw’s in the afternoon. I arrived at his place only to find him just coming home from a party. He had this really strange guy with him who was totally wasted. I’m not just calling him strange because he was drunk but he looks like he’s probably a bit the same way when he’s sober ;) Anyways, the other guys started to arrive and we had a few games. Bouw took a short nap since he hadn’t slept at all and in the meantime Arwen, Tom4 and I played a game of Sins of a Solar Empire. We played VS 3 hard computers and I have to say, it wasn’t easy ! After the LAN we watched some old war movie about General Patton, wasn’t a bad movie even though Arwen fell asleep and I assumed the comfy couch position ;) I believe Bouw took pictures, maybe when I get them I’ll post some here.

Today I just had a lazy Sunday. Dinged 77 in World of Warcraft, I’m finally catching up on Katrien who has been level 80 for like forever. Then she can finally stop laughing at me :p

There’s been a lot of other stuff going on as well but none that I can talk about freely yet online, hopefully soon. So stay tuned ;) (not that it’s all pleasant)

PostHeaderIcon She’s back !

She’s back ! The USS Darthy is mostly fixed so I’m rid of the stupid truck :) I say mostly because they forgot some small stuff so I have to go back *sigh*. In any case that will be for in a week or so, for now I’m happy to be driving something that doesn’t feel like I should hit the eject button anytime soon. She’s got quite some new equipment: a new forward phaser bank (headlights) and the hull integrity is again at 100% (dents are gone). They also claimed a new communications array (bluetooth carkit) was installed because the previous one sucked but we’ll have to find out soon if they’re just not saying that to get rid of me ;) As you can see I added some translations for the non geeks among us (shame on you). We can now once more boldly drive where no geek has gone before !

Well I have my replacement car for the week. And it turns out it’s a giant, old pickup truck. Oh boy :p Those who know me are aware that I have no depth vision, have you ever tried parking one of these without being able to estimate small distances ? I didn’t think so … scary stuff :) Not to mention the fact its maximum speed seems to be 90 km/h without falling apart and it uses up half a tank of fuel just driving to work and back. Needless to say I’ll be happy when I have my normal car back and am rid of the evil truck of death :)

Other than that I had a fun weekend. On Friday Katrien and I went to Arwen’s to eat birthday cake, it was extremely yummy. Jan was there as well and we watched a movie. Outlander or something like that, wasn’t all that great. On Saturday we went shopping. First we looked at sliding doors to block out the noise going upstairs and then we went to a shopping mall. I bought Grand Theft Auto 4 for my PlayStation 3 and got my first Blu-Ray, Ironman (they didn’t have any of the Stargate ones). So yeah, got the bare essentials ;)
Sunday was calorie day. We went to Katrien’s parents where we got stuffed with pancakes, yum :)

That’s it for now, here’s a picture of the truck. Don’t laugh too loud ;)

First thing’s first: I’m ok.

Now this wasn’t the way I expected the week to start. I was driving to work on Monday morning. It was a bit slippery but nothing too bad, I’m used to worse. I was almost there (after being stuck in traffic for about 2 and a half hours) when I came to the last turn. It wasn’t a big turn even. I was driving behind another car at around 25 km/hour (15 miles/hour for you Americans), so really slow and carefully. That car took the turn perfectly, but when I did my steering didn’t work. Neither did the brakes. I just moved straight into the trailer of a truck coming from the opposite direction. It took quite a few seconds for me to actually hit. My car smashed into the trailer on its flank, between the front and rear tires. I was lucky something was attached below the trailer or my car would have slipped under it, maybe taking off the top of my car (and my head ?), so all in all there was a bit of luck involved. My car got thrown back a few meters (like a spring to a certain extend). I can believe what they say on the news, that a crash at 30 km/hour without wearing your seatbelt can be deadly, I was glad to be wearing it.

The truck driver was from Latvia and didn’t speak any understandable language (and I’ll even include French in that list). Anyways the police came and filled in the paperwork. My car is pretty banged up, but I think she’ll be ok. Everything still works but the front is rather dented, I’ll add a (very bad) picture below. My neck hurts a bit though, so I hope that improves soon. I’ve also had a very frustrating afternoon with the insurance company trying to get them to give me a replacement car (which is included in the contract). However according to all sorts of small print I ended up not getting one. So I’m driving around in my banged up car that’s currently being held together by ducktape … I have to say, it brings a whole new thrill to the driving experience !

Well that was basically the big story. Other than that I went to visit Valery this weekend. It was a quiet weekend, we watched some TV, played some World of Warcraft and I installed their new router (the 6th or something). Let’s hope they don’t break it this time ;)
