Queaso LAN 2009 was a success !
Another long intermezzo. But I’ve not been home much so I have an excuse
First there was the Queaso LAN party 2009 which was a grand success ! More than 50 people present, gaming all day long. It was great fun. I’ve uploaded some pictures here. Far Cry 2 really is awesome with 16 players. The only downside was the cleanup, Tom4, Arwen, the guys from the Outpost and myself were busy until after 3am. I guess that’s part of the game, pun intended
Still, next year hopefully some more help from the Queaso people.
I also finally dinged 80 in World of Warcraft on both my Druid and Mage (after starting over again on European servers in November). Now in the process of grabbing some gear
Glad the leveling is over for a while though !
I’ve also met up with both my sister and brother for my birthday. My sister came over with Josephine last Friday. That kid is really becoming quite active, but in a fun way
I went to dinner along with Katrien at my brother’s place on Wednesday. Truth be told I was expecting some strange dinner but it was actually something I really liked (and nothing too weird looking even
).
Yesterday there was the monthly poker evening, although not much actual playing went on. We did watch a bit of TV in the meantime, Man Liberation Front, some new show that has some funny scenes about men becoming sissies. It was ok but I doubt I’ll keep watching it.
This weekend is going to be a quiet one I hope, it’s been too busy in the last week. Both of everything that I just mentioned as at work. It’s been a hectic week there but it turned out ok. Glad to finally be working on a project again with colleagues with a sense of humor (some of them might be reading this though, so gotta keep the compliments to a minimum
). They still need a bit of work in the grouphug departement though, but there’s progress
So back to this weekend: epic lazyness ! And some shopping … probably including ordering our planetickets for California, finally ! On to lazyness, Jorn out !
Birthday LAN party was a success !
Phew, busy weekend ! But before I talk about that let me just say that last week I went to see Watchmen along with Arwen & Peter. Short version: I was really disappointed, what a boring movie. And I didn’t know in advance it was going to last 3 hours, I did my best not to fall asleep. So my recommendation would be: don’t go see it
So on to the weekend ! On Saturday I had a birthday LAN party at my house. 6 of us geeks in total, hehe
We started with my new board game though (Memoir ’44). At first everyone was scared it would take hours but after we did a turn or 2 the pace picked up. It was rather fun, a good introduction. I think we’ll be playing this more in the future. My side ended up losing though, I guess I need to work on my strategy some more
Then the gaming started, mainly Far Cry 2. Now with the new patch no more losing your weapons between games, it really improved it IMO. We also played a short game of Company of Heroes where my team emerged victorious. We concluded the evening by watching Yes Man with Jim Carrey. Oh boy did we have some laughs, not as good as Ace Ventura but still one of the better movies I’ve seen in a while. I was almost tempted to also become a yes man, but I’m a bit too negative for it I’m afraid
Oh yeah and Katrien made a giant bowl of mac & cheese with a nice crust, it was really yum. I’ll be having the leftovers tonight
On Sunday we had a family dinner with my grandparents from my mom’s side. It’s been a while since I had last seen them. We went to eat at my dad’s place for food and then drove over to Castle Jorn to show them around. We had soup with meatballs in it and I’m sorry now that I didn’t take the leftovers
In the evening Katrien and I played some WoW (so close to level 80 !) and watched some TV, nothing too major .
So as you can tell, busy weekend, but fun
1 more year until the big 30 !
Yes, I am now officially 29 years old. The dreaded 30 is creeping up on me, but I’ll try not to think too much about it
I had a fun birthday weekend so far. But before that started Katrien and I did some shopping / informing on my free Friday. First we went to the travel agency to get some info about our trip to California. Still so much to arrange and figure out ! We’ll most likely book our tickets in the next 2 weeks. It’ll be quite a bit more expensive than we first thought, but I think we were being a tad optimistic so yeah. After the travel agency we went to Ikea where I tried not to get too irritated by the bad connection to Proximus (our new mobile phone operator). Didn’t buy much, just a small rack.
Yesterday Valery came over for the weekend, I drove her to the station a few hours ago. We spent most of the weekend playing our Death Knights in World of Warcraft (we always play those characters together), we did a bit under 3 levels (mine is now almost level 67). Other than that we watched some movies (Underworld 3 & Star wars – Clone Wars). As you can see just a relaxing chill weekend
We also went out to dinner for my birthday though to a restaurant nearby. I had the spare ribs, it was quite yum
I got some presents: a coupon for Mediamarkt, one of the stores that I can always find something at and 2 Blu-Rays (The Dark Knight and Independence Day). Groovy !
Well I think I’m going to go watch something on TV or poke Katrien a bit
I have another day off tomorrow and I’m doing some stuff with Arwen (going to see Watchmen & trying out my new board games). Laters !
Catching up on the blogging
I know, I know, I’m a bit slow again
So what have I been up to ? Katrien and I finally managed to catch up with the Toms (1 & 2) for their bdays (which were months ago). We went to a nice place on Sunday to have brunch. I never had brunch before and I have to say, it was quite pleasant.
The food was yum and it was great seeing the Toms again. They also brought a pressie for my own birthday (which is coming up, but if you’re reading this you must be a fan and should be aware of such an awesome upcoming event
). I am now the proud owner of Warhawk, a cool first person multiplayer shooter for my PlayStation 3
The Toms also promised to come over and hang out on an evening, I’m going to hold them to that
Other than that, I bought a cool board game from Tom4′s new site Nightly Game (free advertisement for you here now Tom, feel flattered
).
It’s called Memoir ’44 and it’s a less long version of Axis & Allies. The guys and I will be giving it a test run soon. Talking about games, the Queaso LAN party reached 50 registrations last week, that’s awesome !
There are still spots left so if you’re in the IT business, go and sign up at http://lan.queaso.be !
Katrien and I are also trying to plan our California trip but it’s going slowly. I still have quite a bit to read in the Lonely Planet book she bought. I think we’ll just book our flights though and just try to fill 3 weeks, that shouldn’t be a big problem. And we’ve got Dana whom I know there to show us around ! *ducks*
Next weekend Valery is coming over for my birthday and just some plain old relaxing couch potato-ing, should be fun
And did I mention I’m taking a long weekend yet ? Wiii !
Oh yeah, we just switched telecom operators this week at Queaso, going from Mobistar to Proxisucks, blah
Not only is it Belgacom (the Axis of Evil) but they have a very crappy data network that doesn’t even support Edge (yes they do support faster 3G but my phone doesn’t, and even if it did I’d still like Edge support so that my battery isn’t empty after half a day). So boo for Proximus, I’ll be stuck with super slow internet access, I just hope it will still be usable
Haven’t been able to test it yet because of some issues with the transfer.
