I just had a very busy and diverse weekend. It started on Friday afternoon which I took off from work to celebrate Katrien’s birthday. I had gotten her a surprise breakfast basket with lots of yummy stuff earlier, so she was full of energy to go on a little fieldtrip with me :) We went to the coast where we walked around on the beach and went to a small and cozy restaurant. It was great fun :) The weather was excellent, so the excursion was a complete success !

On Saturday morning I left for Holland to visit Valery. It is that time of year again: Fantasy Fair ! It had been a few editions since we last went. Although I wouldn’t call it a grand success it was still a lot of fun to walk around and see everything, browse the shops and listen to the music. I was a bit tempted to buy a complete plate armor set for 525 Euro (see pictures), but in the end I did what most people would call “the smart and sane thing” and refrained myself. I regret it a bit now though, sane is so not my thing !  ;) Valery on the other hand went on a small shopping frenzy, she got a book, a unicorn statue and a bunch of postcards. So a successful fair visit I’d say :) For pictures click here (you know you want to).

On Sunday we went to the movies to see Inkheart. The movie theater is close to the soccer stadium and all parking spots were reserved for soccer fans, ridiculous. So we ended up not seeing the movie but playing a bit of WoW together which was also fun. It did increase my hatred towards soccer though (if such a thing was possible).

I then drove home to get stuck in traffic (story of my life these days) for an hour and a half. Really, I understand that the roads need to be fixed, but do they all have to be worked on at the exact same time ? For example, I have 4 possible routes to drive from home to work. On all 4 there are road works, and on some more than 1 (7 in total). It’s getting a bit ridiculous …

I’ll conclude my blog post by showing you a picture of my latest shopping spree (together with Arwen & Jan). Yes, we like the board game Descent … and the wrapped one at the front is Starcraft. And no, we are not geeks ;) Really.

Turned out the new antibiotics from the doc didn’t do much either, different situation so not helping this time. I’m on yet another kind now, pills this time. They seem to be helping, but I’m a bit worried because it’s still not all gone. Time will tell I guess. Also still no word on the tissue test, I should have that next week.

Other than that work has been a bit stressy. I’m trying to put in as much overtime as I can but things keep getting in the way (such as the doctor appointments). The deadline is coming closer very fast, only 6 weeks or so now. It’ll be crunch time :)

Yesterday we bought some one year plants for the garden, to brighten it up until we get something final in place. Our backdoor neighbors put some sort of straw reed mats on the fence, we’ll do the same. Cheap, low maintenance and not ugly, what more could you wish for ? :)

Next weekend I’m going to the Netherlands, it’s the yearly fantasy fair then. Valery and I haven’t been there for a few editions so we’re catching up this time :) Should be fun ! Also I still get to choose a late birthday present, so that should be wicked as well ;)

I could try and say that I spent last weekend enjoying the sun, but it would be a lie. On Friday, which was the sunniest day, I had to work (but actually did eat outside, so I guess I did enjoy it somewhat ;) ) and on Saturday the sun was gone. We did have a barbecue though at Arwen’s but we were seated inside. The guys and I had planned a day of Descent (board game), but some of them had to leave early which left us too understaffed to finish the game. A shame really, it was a cool map.

On Sunday I spent the day playing WoW, I didn’t even open the curtains (too many people can see the inside of our house them, I don’t feel comfortable then … should improve when we place down some more fences).

On a not so happy note: last week I went to visit the doctor, “the thing” had returned (I guess most people know what I’m talking about, and those who don’t probably don’t need / want to know ;) ). He prescribed me some antibiotics and wanted to do a full body checkup. So I went back on Tuesday to draw some blood. The doctor also noticed a suspicious mole which he cut out today. It was rather painless but now it’s starting to sting A LOT. I hope that goes away soon. And while I was at the doc he also asked me to fix his computer, lol :) Should have the results of the mole next week when I go back to take out the wires.
Blood test results were already in and everything seems to be ok. But still, 4 doctor appointments in 2 weeks time is really a bit too much for my taste, let’s hope I can skip a few years after this ! Oh yeah and my antibiotics weren’t working so in the meantime “the thing” has grown … the doc has given me stronger ones now, I really hope this helps, don’t feel like going to the hospital to get cut open again *shivers*. But let’s be positive, it’s the same antibiotics I used last time and they helped then … keep them crossed for me :)
