Twitter button added
Hi everyone,
Just a short post to let you know I added a “follow me on Twitter” button on the right hand side. Could come in handy
Until next time !
Updated WordPress and changed the theme !
Hi all,
After running on the same theme for the site for 5 years I decided it was time for a change. In the meantime I also updated WordPress to the latest version.
Hope you like it !
Happy birthday to … Darthy.net
Just a short post today. I have 2 ‘big’ announcements though.
Today is the 1 year anniversary of this blog, yay ! I’m quite proud that I managed to keep up with it as well as I did. There’s about an average of 1 post a week, which is about what I intended
Also, vacation started today for Katrien and me. I have 3 weeks and she has 4. So, good times ahead !
Must be off, going to a restaurant with Katrien’s parents for their 30 year anniversary.
We’re back !
Welcome to the new and improved Darthy.net ! You might not notice a big difference but behind the screens it’s all new. We’re now running on WordPress 2.5.1 and all plugins have been upgraded to the latest version. And of course we are running on a new host, namely Lunarpages.
My experiences over the past few days have made me glad I left One.com. Not only did they change all the info on my domain to theirs, they also locked my domain for 2 months so I can’t completely transfer. After a week of insisting and getting very contradictory responses from them they finally changed the nameservers of Darthy.net to those of Lunarpages. Phew !
Another noteworthy change is the fancy permalinks which now also work with the gallery plugin.
I also have other big news … Castle Jorn is officially ours ! Durabrik, the construction company, has officially turned it over to us. They only have a few minor things left to do there. It’s moving day in 3 weeks so time is running short, so much left to do for us personally ! We can always use an extra pair of hands when the big moving day arrives, so feel free to come help (I can but try
)
Talking about the house, we worked some more in it today. We scrubbed down the walls to make them smooth. So much dust … but at least they can now be painted, which will be the next big step.
Yesterday Els & Kristof came over for dinner. Katrien and I were preparing the food (well I’ll admit, mostly Katrien, but still, I helped !) and we noticed like 15 minutes before our guests arrived that we probably wouldn’t have enough food. Panic mode on ! I called them and asked them to come a bit later. As I continued stuffing the cannelloni, Katrien drove to the store to get more. In the end though, everyone ate so many appetizers that no one was hungry anymore. Oh well
I had a bit too much to drink (there was champagne to celebrate the house stuff) and Els took advantage of my temporary weakness and beat the crap out of me in a pillow fight … I shall have my vengeance !
Well I’m going to go relax a bit, my whole body is sore from the wall scrubbing.
Site issues
The transfer is now underway. However I’m having some configuration issues resulting in a slow site, it should be fixed soon (but it could take a few days). Stay tuned !
Hosting transfer & Weekend
As I stated previously, I’m changing hosting providers. And … today is the day
So the site might not work correctly over the coming days as things are changed and such. It’ll take a few days for the domain to actually transfer to Lunarpages. Wish me luck …
Edit: Well looks like I’ll have to wait a day to get started, Lunarpages wants to verify some stuff first. I’ll use the opportunity to tell a bit about my weekend
On Friday it was time again for the Queaso GetTogether with barbecue. This time Kristof and Dimi talked a bit about Maven. I think for a lot of .NET programmers who were there, it was their first contact with “the other side”. Afterwards we enjoyed a nice barbecue, I was stuffed. We also got a cool Queaso polo-shirt, I was the only one wearing it though
Saturday was a busy day. I wanted to watch the live stream of the Blizzard Worldwide Invitational. But just as it was about to begin the guy who came to give us a price estimate to put down the terrace arrived. I managed to get back before the ending of the opening ceremony but missed the Diablo 3 announcement. Still, I’m very excited for that game ! Afterwards Kristof and I drove to the MediaMarkt so he could buy a Roomba, one of those automatic vacuum cleaners. I’m getting one of those myself eventually, but after we move. The WAF is a bit low at the moment
We then drove to Glabeek, to the barbecue Wenti had organized for her birthday. Took us an hour longer than expected to get there thanks to a monster traffic jam. The barbecue itself was very yummy and the weather was being very cooperative ! Her parents (where the barbecue was located) live in this really secluded area. Tom2 & Kaat were there also, hadn’t seen them in a while either, so that was nice. I was planning to take my camera so I could post some pictures but I forgot
And then we come to today … where I had planned to move all my stuff to my new hosting … so much for that plan, boohoo !
New plugin
I installed a new plugin today. Tom1 uses it on his blog and it looked rather neat so I had to give it a try. I’ve tested it in Internet Explorer 7, Safari (Iphone) and Firefox (2 & 3). Only in Firefox 2 I can’t seem to get it working, but I’ll do some more experimenting
Hope you like it !
Add comment link
I’ve put a link to add comments at the bottom of every post. It should be more obvious now how you can leave a note. It’s always fun for me to read so don’t be shy
There’s no need to register (do mention your name though).
Castle Jorn gallery
Good news ! They will start construction on our new house next week. I added a gallery specifically for this. Check it out here. I will add more pictures as the construction moves forward, so check back often
Site has gone live !
Well well, after a lot of playing around the new site has finally gone live. It’s not yet 100% completed but it’s getting there. Expect a lot more pictures to follow in the near future. In the meantime be sure to check out the rest, like the random quotes and the free (old) games I programmed when I was in college.
I’ve been meaning to replace this site for quite a while, however really never got around to it. In the end I decided to go for the lazy approach and just use an existing content management system. After playing around with both Drupal and Joomla I first thought to go with Drupal, but after a while it really started to dawn on me that it’s much too heavy for what I wanted to do, so I checked out WordPress and went with it.
As you can see, the banner isn’t really all that fancy, but I’ve got my pal Barbie working on it ! So soon there’ll be a banner like you’ve never seen before
Well that’s it for now, more to follow soon. Be sure to leave a comment on this blog every once in a while, I would appreciate it
